MINNESOTA WILD TO PARTICIPATE IN NHL ENTRY DRAFT DRAWING
The National Hockey League (NHL) announced today that the 2000 NHL Entry Draft Drawing to determine the order of selection for the first round of this year's Entry Draft will take place on June 1st.
Because the team winning the drawing may not move up more than four positions in the draft order, only the three teams with the lowest points totals and the two expansion teams (or the team that obtains one of the picks in a trade) will have the chance to draw the first overall selection.
Once the drawing is over and the draft order is determined, a coin toss will occur to establish which team has priority in choosing between Entry Draft priority and Expansion Draft priority.

Poor communication, instruction hamper Penguins' prospects
On the final day of the American Hockey League season two months ago, defenseman Brooks Orpik, the Penguins' No. 1 pick in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, was asked to describe the organization's expectations of him, to identify the facets of his game he had been told to improve.
It is fairly simple to quantify the Penguins' recent failures in the NHL Entry Draft, just as criteria can be found to illustrate a lack of quality.
That is a fair amount of NHL talent for any AHL team to produce in such a short time, although the Penguins' glut of injuries was the major factor in some of those promotions this past season.
