  2000AD in Rebellion?
2000AD occupies an unequalled position in the world of illustrated UK science fiction, having been published for more than 23 years.
The first issue of 2000AD ('Prog 1' to use the comic's own terminology) hit the streets on February 28th 1977, for the down-to-earth price of 8p (or 17 Galactic Groats on Mercury) and featured a number of characters and stories which went on to enjoy huge popularity, including M.A.C.H. 1, Flesh and Invasion.
Rebellion's acquisition of 2000AD will allow the Rebellion team full use of more than 700 characters and series, not only in computer games, but also in films, action figures, collectable card games and any other suitable merchandising vehicle they think they can make a turn from.

With the original screenplay in tatters a panel of 2000AD writers and artists at the annual “Comics” comic convention in 1996 gave a breakdown of the film, dissecting the film bit by bit for continuity errors and rejected storylines.

I met Paul Carstairs who'd done a couple of Future Shocks (short six-page strips in 2000AD, generally used as filler material but also to to 'break in' new artists - Pixelsurgeon) for 2000AD and at this point we were both into DC Vertigo type stories.
I have also inked a Dredd story and a Mean Machine story for The Megazine; for DC Comics on a couple of issues of Hellblazer (Haunted) with John Higgins; and with Kin and Gary Frank for Top Cow.
The project, for which I was supplying fully-painted art took me an age to do and by the end up I'd come to the conclusion that painting comics (I was only keen on doing painted stuff) was way too difficult and time consuming for me to want to continue.

The alliances with the two publishers was seen as many as a bold move by DC, as well as one aimed at increasing their presence in bookstores, by looking to Europe, rather than exclusively to Asia for material to import.
However, both the 2000AD and Humanoids lines - despite presenting some of the most acclaimed comics to come from Europe in the past two decades — failed to catch on both in the direct market, and more importantly, as Newsarama’s Brian Hibbs noted, in the bookstore market.
Hibbs said: “CMX, 2000AD, and Humanoids are all putatively ‘book store imprints,’ yet of all of the 2004 releases, only one makes the chart — volume 1 of Land of the Blindfolded with a, frankly, pathetic 1270 copies sold.

John Wagner got his start on the humour comics and girls' magazines of the 70s, then went on to work with Mills on the ground-breaking titles BATTLE and ACTION, the latter of which fell prey to censorship due to a public outcry over violent content.
The demise of ACTION, though, led to 2000AD, and to Judge Dredd, of whom Wagner is considered the definitive writer.
