		Group presentations spiked downward in 2001, but shot back up in 2002 to the highest figure ever recorded; meanwhile, the number of participants in those presentations continues to increase with 11,350 participants for the typical research library.
		In 2001, for the first time since 1986, the median serial unit cost declined from a high of over $300 to slightly less than $280.
		It is not clear what might have caused the decline in 2001, but several factors may have contributed.

		The decline is related to the general slowdown in statewide economic activity, as well as a sharp drop in revenues from capital gains and stock options in 2001.
		The 2001 budget, as adopted by the Legislature, provides a total of $7.5 billion from state special funds and federal funds for the Department of Transportation (Caltrans), a 22 percent reduction in comparison to 2000-01 (see below).
		Budget legislation (1) eliminates the sunset of benefits for post-August 1996 immigrants (scheduled for October 1, 2001) and (2) increases (from five years to ten years) the time period under which a sponsor's income is deemed to an immigrant.

		National Squads selection will be at the forefront of many players’ minds this coming WNSL season, youths aspiring to compete in the inaugural FIFA U19 Women’s World Championship, whilst the more senior players will be out to impress the new National Coach, currently in the process of being appointed.
		The next scheduled event for the Young Matildas is a training camp in January, in preparation for the Oceania qualification tournament in Tonga in April/May. The Oceania champion advances through to the twelve-nation finals lineup for the U19 World Championship in Canada, August-September 2002.
		After last year’s shortened season, 2001/02 sees a welcome return to a ten-round competition, and a true home and away format will be utilised for the first time.

	Bureau of Justice Statistics Capital Punishment
		Presents characteristics of persons under sentence of death on December 31, 2001, and of persons executed in 2001.
		Numerical tables present data on offenders' sex, race, Hispanic origin, education, marital status, age at time of arrest for capital offense, legal status at time of capital offense, methods of execution, trends, and time between imposition of death sentence and execution.
		Of the 6,754 people under sentence of death between 1977 and 2001, 11% were executed, 4% died by causes other than execution, and 32% received other dispositions.

		On January 29, 2001, the CERT/CC published CERT Advisory CA-2001-02, detailing multiple vulnerabilities in multiple versions of ISC BIND nameserver software.
		Two of the vulnerabilities described in the advisory are still being actively exploited by the intruder community to compromise systems.

	2001 Budget Analysis:California Medical
		Effective January 1, 2001, this category is expanded and would include couples with an income limit equivalent to $1,247.
		This was not reflected in the 2000-01 budget plan because the legislation was enacted at the end of the legislative session.
		Effective January 2001, Medi-Cal benefits are being provided without a share of cost to all aged, blind, and disabled persons with current income equivalent to 133 percent of the FPL and below.

		Tourism accounted for $31.8 billion of total GDP in 2001-02, a decrease of $53 million, or 0.2%, since 2000-01.
		There is little doubt that the destruction of the World Trade Center in New York on 11 September 2001 and the demise of Ansett Airlines were major factors contributing to the decline.
		The fall in 2001-02 follows growth of 14.3% in 2000-01, which was influenced by the introduction of the GST and the Sydney Olympic Games.

		In Fall 2001 the number of MATE 215 sections offered increased from five to seven resulting in a 40% increase in enrollment.
