According to the NHL, the first players re-entered an entry draft in 1978, after going unsigned by the clubs that picked them in 1977.
A player goes back into the entry draft if he is 20 or younger and has not signed a contract within two years of being drafted or has not received an offer from the NHL club that drafted him within one year of being drafted.
If a player is drafted twice and remains without a contract, he is not subject to re-entry.
