Kate Bush returned to the music world after a 12-year absence with the single "King of the Mountain", which became her biggest UK hit in 20 years by reaching No. 4, and was followed on 7 November by the acclaimed double album Aerial, which reached No. 3 and was certified platinum.
The world of jazz and avant garde music lost one of its pioneers at the end of this year, with the death of free improvising guitarist Derek Bailey on Christmas Day.

Or we could look upon it the way that I do, and that is to say any British acts recording new material will simply have to up their game and produce better tracks.
You could say that it is unfair to expect British material to match the quality of the Nashville product and to some extent that would be true simply due to the mass of talent in Nashville of musicians and producers who have grown up with Country Music as the major format.
There has been plenty of good British tracks competing this year and as usual I shall be looking at the top 20 performing British singles on the chart.
