Juggling three prospect goalies as the 2004-05 NHL lockout season began, and seeking starting roles for all three, the Capitals assigned Daigneault to the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL on October 7, 2004.
Daigneault signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Capitals on May 25, 2004, just days prior to the June 1 deadline, when he would have been eligible to re-enter the draft.
His salary would increase were he to play in the NHL.
