Hunter-Reay holds the Champ Car record for the most laps lead in a race, surpassing Nigel Mansell’s record, became the first American in over 20 years to win in his Rookie season, and is the only American driver to win a Champ Car race in the previous two seasons.

The Champ Car World Series got a boost Friday with the addition of the RuSport team and driver A.J. Allmendinger, who helped the team to the 2003 Toyota Atlantic Championship title.
Open Wheel Racing Series, the newly formed company that bought the assets of CART in bankruptcy court, has said it hopes to have 18 cars on the grid when it opens the season April 18 at the Long Beach Grand Prix.
The series, which ended the season with 19 cars, has lost at least three of them over the winter.
