2005 World Summit - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The 2005 World Summit, 14–16 September 2005, was a follow-up summit meeting to the United Nations' 2000 Millennium Summit, which led to the Millennium Declaration of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
As well as discussing progress on the MDGs, and re-iterating the world's commitment to them, the summit was to address the possible reform of the United Nations; much of this was eventually postponed to a later date.
The inaugural session of the Clinton Global Initiative was held in New York City to coincide with the 2005 World Summit, and attracted many of the same world leaders.

Yet in 2005, almost half the co-operation countries which are the focus of German development policy are experiencing violent conflict or are in a post-conflict situation.
For the people in the affected countries, this means uncertainty about right and wrong, fear of their neighbours or armed groups, a sense of rage over perceived injustices and repression, a lack of control over their own futures and, very often, threats to their lives and physical integrity.
This includes an almost four-fold expansion of its membership (from 51 countries in 1945 to 191 in 2005), new types of conflict compared with those arising in the period after the Second World War, and new challenges in the age of globalisation, to cite just a few examples.
