  Media Report - 7 April 2005  - Bullying & Television
In other words, whether or not parents watch television with children, and indeed the authors of the study have indicated that one of the concerns they have, is they have no measure about the particular types of television being viewed.
I think methodologically the biggest problem with the study is that it focuses on mothers' reports of their children, and it focuses on loosely defined terms, the authors themselves admit that they don't ask the parents to understand what bullying or cruel or mean behaviour is, they simply ask the question.
You may not be able to spend 100% of your time attending to their reading of television, or their learning about television and its world, but you can be there sporadically, in order to assist with interpretation.

As for killing television, it has to be the consumer.
The skyrocketing cost of television coupled with the fact that consumers live in a multidimensional world in which the TV no long holds them captive allows all of us in the business to explore other options.

AfterEllen.com - 2005 Year in Review: Lesbian and Bisexual Women on TV   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
The growing normalcy of homosexuality has been marked on television in 2005 by increasing numbers of lesbian and bisexual characters on reality television, from Kim Stolz of America’s Next Top Model 5 to Ivette Corredero on Big Brother 6.
This is a marked increase in the number of bisexual characters on television in previous years, but this increase is also due to the fact that many of the female characters on television who had same-sex relationships in 2005 either went back to dating men after their same-sex relationship, or previously had dated men.
Once unscripted television is added into the equation, the total number of lesbians rises to 17, and the total number of bisexuals rises to 10.

informitv - Interactive Television Forum 2005 conference report
The general tone at the Interactive Television Forum in London was more self-critical and less self-congratulatory than at some conferences over recent years, suggesting a mood of pragmatic realism rather than idealism at what seems like a transitional period in interactive television.
Introducing the second annual Interactive Television Forum, William Cooper of informitv observed that some seven years after the launch of the first interactive services on digital television in the UK, there are around seven years before digital switchover will be complete.
There appeared to be a feeling that the television industry and interactive television sector in the UK has become transfixed by the coming threats and opportunities of new platforms such as broadband and on-demand services.
