I had not realise this but the 2006 Commonwealth Games are being held in Melbourne Australia, taking place in two weeks time (March 15-26) which is our winter season but Australia’s late summer season.
It works well that the games are being held now at this time of the year because usually there is a problem of getting athletes to come to the games during the summer time period when it is normally scheduled.
The Commonwealth games really have only three worthy competitors who have crdible athletes in most of the events: host Australia, Canada, and Great Britain who is represented not as a nation but as by its constituent parts (Northen Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England).
