  IAAF World Indoor Championships
The IAAF first staged a World Indoor Games in 1985.
The event was formally re-titled World Indoor Championships in 1987 and has been staged every 2 years since that date.
The championships were held in successive years in 2003 and 2004 as the event was switched from odd to even years to alternate with the main IAAF World (Outdoor) Championships.

2006 men's Visa Championship Series winner Terrence Trammell became the first double medalist at the world indoor track and field championships with his bronze medal finish in the 60m (6.54) on Friday followed by his 60m hurdles indoor crown (7.43) on Saturday.
In the college ranks, Xavier Carter of LSU ran a world leader in the 400 at the NCAA Championships, finishing in 45.28.

 IAAF: Liu and Bergqvist were the best in July
The reigning World indoor champion ran 3:55.68 (1410 points) to win the 1500m at the Paris Golden League and turn in the best track performance by a woman in July.
Already a World leader with his leap of 8.56m from May, the 23-year-old reiterated his dominance of the event by winning in Athens with a jump of 8.65m (1415 points) although the wind reading was +3.3m/s.
The IAAF World Rankings "Top performer of the month" is released on the first week of each month collecting the results of the previous four weeks and dividing them into the above categories.

In all, 15 urine and blood samples were collected during the championships held in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on 1 October, while 101 blood samples were taken prior to the competition.
According to an IAAF press release, blood sampling conducted during the pre-competition period focused on gathering haematological blood profiles and screening samples for the indication of EPO abuse, while samples taken during the in-competition period (urine and blood) were screened for all prohibited substances and methods.
IAAF officials will also be visiting Russia in November to continue preparations for the doping control program for the 11th IAAF World Indoor Championships, to be held in Moscow from 10-12 March, 2006.

The world cross-country and indoor championships could both come Australia's way as part of the fine-tuning of the athletics calendar to accommodate the proposed March 15-25 Commonwealth Games dates.

 Sports Venue Technology - 2004 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Budapest.
The World Indoor Games were first held in 1985 and renamed the World Indoor Championships in 1987.
In February 2002 the Hungarian Local Organising Committee, set up specifically for the Athletics World Championship, submitted its proposal to the IAAF and set the first weekend of March (5-7) as the date for the Championships, which was duly accepted.
Mainly because the arena is new, as part of its preparations, the hosts intend to hold two trial athletics meetings in spring 2003 and another two immediately prior to the big event in order to ensure all aspects of the new venue have been thoroughly tested.

The USATF National Masters Indoor Championships will be conducted here for the eighth year in a row with nearly 200 world and US masters records recorded here at "Reggie".
The "crowning jewel" for the facility, though, is the arrival of the USA National Indoor Championships for a two year stay in 2003 and 2004.

For the Combined Events, eight athletes will be invited by the IAAF: the top 4 athletes in the 2006 Indoor Lists (as of February 20, 2006) and the top 4 athletes in the 2005 Outdoor Lists.
All performances must be achieved in competitions organized or authorized by the IAAF, its Area Associations, or its National Member Federations.
Thus, results achieved at collegiate or school competitions must be certified by the National Federation of the country in which the competition was organized.

As an athlete, Ereng was a three-time NCAA champion, a four-time NCAA All-American, the 1988 Olympic gold medalist in Seoul, twice the World Indoor Champion and a former world record holder.

 X-Country preparations on track, says IAAF
The IAAF Regional Technical Development Centre yesterday gave a thumbs-up to the on-going preparations for the 2007 World Cross Country Championships.
