2006 Pacific hurricane season - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The 2006 Pacific hurricane season is an ongoing event in the annual cycle of tropical cyclone formation.
It officially started May 15, 2006 in the eastern Pacific, will start on June 1, 2006 in the central Pacific, and will last until November 30, 2006.
This is the same list that was used in the 2000 season.

2005 Atlantic hurricane season - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Early in the season, Hurricane Dennis caused significant damages to various citrus and vegetable crops in Cuba, though the damages were not crippling.
Hurricane Wilma became one of the fastest-intensifying hurricanes on record, and later strengthened unexpectedly in the face of strong wind shear.
The season was the first season to use "V" and "W" names, and when the season ran out of official alphabetical names after the use of Wilma, forecasters resorted to using letters from the Greek alphabet for the first time (although Alpha and Delta had been used for subtropical storms in the 1970s).

2006 Pacific typhoon season - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The 2006 Pacific typhoon season has no official bounds; it runs year-round in 2006, but most tropical cyclones tend to form in the northwestern Pacific Ocean between June and December.
The scope of this article is limited to the Pacific Ocean, north of the equator and west of the international date line.
Storms that form east of the date line and north of the equator are called hurricanes; see 2006 Pacific hurricane season.

Cruise Critic News: Pacific Hurricane Season 2005: NOAA's Official Prediction
The East Pacific hurricane season began on May 15 (two weeks earlier than the Atlantic season, which begins June 1) and runs, like the Atlantic season, through November 30.
The East Pacific hurricane season generally garners less attention than the Atlantic season because most hurricanes in this region head away from the Mexican and Central American coasts and fizzle out over the Pacific, thus bearing little to no impact on cruise itineraries.
Hurricane experts expect two to three tropical cyclones to occur within the Central Pacific in 2005.

In their forecast for the upcoming hurricane season released today, the CSU team also projects that the U.S. will be at high risk from strikes by intense hurricanes again, with an 81% chance of a strike by a Category 3, 4, or 5 hurricane.
Even though we expect to see the current active period of Atlantic major hurricane activity to continue for another 15-20 years, it is statistically unlikely that the coming 2006 and 2007 hurricane seasons, or the seasons which follow, will have the number of major hurricane US landfall events as we have seen in 2004-2005.
However, over the past five years (not including the forecast for the 2005 season), the skill of the December hurricane forecasts by the CSU team has been quite good--in four out of five years, the predicted number of named storms was within three of the actual number.
