Since 1966, however, Lucca has also been the undisputed City of Comics, and year after year has hosted an event dedicated to strip cartoons that is acknowledged to be the most important and exciting of its kind in Italy.
This is a very important event for our sector and we have decided to celebrate it in a revolutionary way by leaving the old site of the convention center in Via delle Tagliate and returning to the heart of the city, where it all began forty years ago.
For the 2006 Convention, Lucca will once again welcome the world of Comics and Games, with the lovely spacious piazzas in its wonderful old town centre and the atmospheric grassy area outside the Walls being used as sites for the tents for our exhibition-market.

Comics and Childhood: the 4th Annual University of Florida Comics Conference   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
Comics are still largely seen by the general public as a media directed toward a child or youth audience.
While this boundary is slowly being dissipated, our conference wishes to look not only at comics and childhood, but also comics and children's literature, comics and education, comics and childhood themes, comics and revisions of children's tales, comics and their intended audience.
Since comics are encompassed in the larger context of image and text traditionally reserved for children, we will be particularly interested in the use of image and text in the hybrid forms of comics and children's literature.

So comics, in which a story gap from a 20-year-old episode can result in an entire new series, is perhaps the perfect medium for Rushkoff to tell what he considers the real story of the Bible.
But the comic itself is impossible to put down once you start reading it as Rushkoff retells the biblical story of Abraham’s sacrifice of his son Isaac alongside a futuristic tale of a young man preparing to enter a mandatory military draft.

Between 1990 and 2004, people were doing 24 hour comics on their own or in small gatherings for more than a decade.
The 24 hour comics that were done before 24 Hour Comics Day was launched tend to be much more downbeat and depressed than the ones done at 24 Hour Comics Day events.
This is probably because people at the events are working side by side and sharing the fun; working on a comic at 4:30 AM all alone can give one a lot of time to reflect on bleak thoughts.
