		Honoring Excellence in Ham Radio Public Relations: McGan Award Nomination Deadline Looms (Apr 10, 2006) -- The ARRL is encouraging nominations for the 2006 Philip J. McGan Memorial Silver Antenna Award.
		The National Institute of Amateur Radio (NIAR) in Hyderabad, India, will sponsor a first-of-its-kind hamfest, "Hamfest - (VU4) India - 2006," April 18-20 in Port Blair on South Andaman Island, and dozens of VU4 stations are expected on the air.
		The 2006 theme is "Amateur Radio: A gateway to information and communications technologies (ICT) for today's youth." With support from PZK, the Polish Amateur Radio Union, MK QTC, the Polish radio amateurs' journal again will sponsor the World Amateur Radio Day (WARD) certificate.

		The CBA and the Thomson Foundation are offering two bursaries for employees of CBA member organisations, working as radio or tv journalist, to attend a three month summer course on International Broadcast Journalism in Cardiff in 2006.
		Doordarshan (India), Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), New Delhi Television (NDTV), and Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) are the winners of of the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association's Broadcasting Awards for 2006, which were announced in Delhi, India at the CBA's General Conference on 16 February, 2006.
		Entries are now invited for the 2006 Commonwealth Short Story Competition.

	A Beginner's Mind: Gay Marriage Ban Out of "Focus"
		Wisconsin Public Radio featured both guests for a half-hour each this morning to preview each side of the debate.
		In November 2006, Wisconsin may be at ground zero in the battle for civil rights for gays and lesbians, when a proposed state constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, civil unions and domestic partnerships may be on the ballot.
		Wisconsin has tended to lean more socially conservative in recent years, which leaves the 2006 election as a big concern for those, like myself, who support equal rights for homosexuals.

		Nominations Sought For 2006 Dayton Hamvention® Awards (Dec 29, 2005) -- The Dayton Hamvention® is accepting nominations for its 2006 awards for Radio Amateur of the Year, Special Achievement and Technical Excellence.
		The global Amateur Radio contesting competition is held in conjunction with the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) HF World Championship, although WRTC rules differ in some respects from those of the IARU event, and scoring is separate.
		The Ham Aid funding is due to expire at year's end, and ARRL Chief Development Officer Mary Hobart, K1MMH, urges all eligible ham radio volunteers to request a reimbursement as soon as possible.

	Radio boss says no to Singo's NRL coverage - Business - Business - smh.com.au
		Caralis's Broadcast Operations, which owns 33 radio stations in NSW and south-east Queensland, pledged $500,000 in cash and $500,000 in contra advertising for the NRL to promote the game in 2006.
		NRL communications director John Brady said that, after widely consulting with the radio industry, the NRL decided to extend the existing contract with Macquarie because most station owners wanted to bid for multi-year rights from 2007, when radio commentary for Monday and Friday night football games would be introduced.
		Some in the industry said the current spat was standard fare between the two radio groups, which "fight like cats and dogs".
