In broadcast TV, the biggest new series for both CBS and NBC were genre shows with NBC's Heroes shining as the biggest new hit of the year.
Each was merged into the other to form a new television network in The CW.

The report shows that an increasing number of households are watching digital television on second or third TV sets (for example, in a spare bedroom or the kitchen) in addition to their main set.
As of September 2006 there were almost eight million second sets connected to some form of digital reception device (either a set-top-box or an integrated digital tuner), up from four million in the same period last year.
Therefore, a household with satellite or cable on the primary television set but DTT on a second set would be defined as a satellite or cable digital household.

The report shows that by the end of June 2006 70.2% of UK television households (17.7 million) were watching digital television on at least one set in the home - up from 69.7% at the end March this year.

Nielsen's national Universe Estimates (the estimate of television viewers within the population) also show that the number of viewers aged 2+ increased by 1.1 percent to 283.5 million.
This movement continues to be attributed to population migrations to the South and the West.
