 NHL season officially cancelled - Silver Chips Online
National Hockey League (NHL) Commissioner Gary Bettman told reporters Wednesday Feb. 16 that the league was unable to reach an agreement with the players union, and the 2004-2005 season has been officially cancelled.
The commissioner, who was at the helm 10 years ago when the two sides reached a collective bargaining agreement at the last moment before the 1994-95 season was scrapped, also added that the two sides were not as close as some had figured.
Bettman said he expected a full season next year, and from here on, that was the focus of the NHL.

That doesn't mean that if the season was going that they would not care.
He basically said that he thinks the players would go for some sort of cap if it was around 50 million, and that the whole situation is stupid and needs to be resolved, but in more of a JR sort of fashion...Dunno, he's the man though.
