The Ladies Golf Union (LGU) have announced that the Weetabix Women's British Open will break new ground in 2007 when it is played at the Old Course, St Andrews, Aug. 2-5.

THE Open is poised to return to St Andrews in 2010, when the Royal and Ancient will celebrate the 150th anniversary of a championship which started at Prestwick in 1860 with Willie Park holding off a challenge from Old Tom Morris.
Watched by crowds of 223,000 - the second largest in Open history - the popularity of St Andrews with the public was underlined by the success of the championship.
In 2007 the championship will be at Carnoustie and in 2008 at Royal Birkdale.

The 2004 Championship at Royal Portrush was won by Pete Oakley who produced the biggest upset victory in the history of the Senior British Open Championship presented by MasterCard when he triumphed by one stroke.
The Senior British Open Championship was previously played at Royal Portrush in the five years between 1995 and 1999.
The Seniors British Open in 2008 had been scheduled to also take place at Royal Portrush but, in light of next year's change, it is unknown at this stage if these plans for 2008 are still applicable.

"Oakmont is well known as one of the best golf courses in the country," said Fred Ridley, chairman of the USGA championship committee. "In addition, Oakmont has provided the U.S. Open history with some dramatic finishes and accomplished champions. We thank Oakmont for its generous invitation to again host our National Championship."
Designed by Henry C. Fownes and William C. Fownes Jr., the course was opened in 1903. It has undergone revisions by numerous architects, the most recent by Arthur Hills in 1988.
