PITTSBURGH — Defensive tackle Chris Hoke, who effectively replaced injured nose tackle Casey Hampton last season, signed a two-year contract extension with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday.
But when Hampton suffered a season-ending knee injury in an October 17 game at Dallas, Hoke stepped in for the last 10 games of the regular season and recorded 27 tackles, including 20 solo, and two sacks.
Financial terms of the deal, which runs through 2007, were not disclosed.

Buckner entered the league as the Pittsburgh Steelers&; second-round draft pick in 1994 and played three seasons with them before signing an offer sheet with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Buckner, who had one year remaining on his current contract, signed through the 2007 season.
A former Clemson standout, Buckner started 12 games last season with 47 tackles, five sacks and 18 quarterback pressures.

Hoke joined the Steelers as an undrafted free agent out of Brigham Young on April 23, 2001.
The Pittsburgh St eelers rewarded defensive tackle Chris Hoke with a two-year extension on Thursday.

PITTSBURGHPittsburgh Steelers center Jeff Hartings has reworked his contract, agreeing to a $5.8 million, two-year contract that also pays him a $1.75 million signing bonus — a deal that creates an extra $2.1 million in salary cap room for the team.
Hartings, a Pro Bowl center who has reworked his contract several times in past seasons, previously had a 2006 salary cap value of $8.1 million that was far above that of any other Steelers player.
Hartings is to make $2.2 million this year and $3.6 million in 2007.
