NBC will pay about $600 million a year — what ESPN now pays for Sunday night games — and get a big extra ESPN isn't getting now or in its new deal: NBC will air the Super Bowls of the 2008 and 2011 seasons.
Also, NBC will resume NFL telecasts for the first time since the 1997 season with Sunday night games, now on ESPN.
He cites the potential advantage of flexible scheduling — NBC will be able to pick some of its late-season matchups — as well as having prime-time football on a weekend, when West Coast viewers won't have to rush home from work for kickoffs.

Under the proposal, the Chargers can't begin shopping the team to other cities until Jan. 1, 2007, and cannot leave before the end of the 2008 season.
The league, which has not had a team in the Los Angeles area since the 1994 season, has been working with groups representing sites at Carson, the Coliseum and the Rose Bowl.
"If the commissioner is saying he wants a team to start playing in Los Angeles by the '08 season, the Chargers would not be able to do that (under the proposed new lease)," team special counsel Mark Fabiani said.
