A set of five doll mascots for the 2008 Olympic Games were unveiled in Beijing on November 11, exactly 1,000 days before the event's opening ceremony.
Like the Five Olympic Rings from which they draw their color and inspiration, the Five Friendlies will serve as the Official Mascots of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, carrying a message of friendship and peace--and blessings from China--to children all over the world.
Beibei is the Fish, Jingjing is the Panda, Huanhuan is the Olympic Flame, Yingying is the Tibetan Antelope and Nini is the Swallow.

Beijing has pledged to the International Olympic Committee to achieve World Health Organization standards for urban air quality in time for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is working with the Chinese government to ensure that goal is achieved.

Following months of speculation, the International Olympic Committee has confirmed that the equestrian events of the 2008 Olympic games will be held in Hong Kong, rather than on the Chinese mainland in Beijing.

A sponsorship agreement was signed between the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) and Haier Group, one of the largest manufacturers of household electrical appliances in China.
