		2010: Odyssey Two, is a science fiction novel by Arthur C. Clarke (January 1982) and also a motion picture (1984) by Peter Hyams entitled simply 2010, or sometimes 2010: The Year We Make Contact.
		Clarke makes a cameo appearance in the film, as a man on a park bench outside the White House (However, he has been removed from the Pan-and-scan version).
		In consequence, the model for Discovery in 2010 is longer by one 'frame' between the spherical pressure hull and AE35/comm array 'frame', and a further two 'frames' longer between the array and the drive unit.

		While this event did not exactly make the media headlines (as it should have), it was a fascinating look at a celestial body never before seen by humanity and only the third space probe visit to a planetoid in history.
		This makes little sense, though: If hundreds of billions of dollars were spent in making this Machine and human lives were at stake, I would darn sure want to test it first both to see if I got my money's worth and that the thing is safe.
		Granted this event makes Ellie a more three-dimensional character than most of the other roles in the film, but I can equally see the general audience thinking that SETI is not so much about finding what is out there than what is in the human psyche.

		"2010: The Year We Make Contact" is equally disrespectful of the preceeding film "2001: A Space Odyssey" by the late Stanley Kubrick.
		I think Hyams was perhaps trying to mimic the space station in 2001 but he forgot that the only parts of the space station that would have the centripedal force that would substitute for gravity would be the ends of the rotating piece.
		2010 is not about the human race, at least from the extraterrestrial intelligence's point of view.
