Chicago's chance at hosting the 2016 Summer Olympics is bolstered by preliminary commitments made by major corporations and wealthy Chicago philanthropists, promised participation in the planning process by community and government leaders (including the Chairman of the Illinois Republican Party, a political party usually opposed to Daley) and enthusiasm of the city's citizenry.
Like the Chicago bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics, San Francisco and the entire San Francisco Bay area in California is touting a compact but regional-participatory focus for its bid, expressing an interest in developing planning partnerships with a large number of neighboring large cities.
