		Yesterday Epson announced the Stylus Photo 2200 A3+ printer (known as the 2100 in Europe and PM-4000PX in Japan).
		By using Epson's new seven-color UltraChrome inks, the EPSON Stylus Photo 2200 is able to print images at fast speeds with a larger color gamut than the previous generation.
		The EPSON Stylus Photo 2200 is the first printer to utilize UltraChrome inks, providing a wide color gamut that is now extremely close to the gamut of the popular six-color, dye-based Epson inks with more vibrant and saturated reds, oranges and yellows.

		The new UltraChrome inks used in the 2200 (as well as the larger 7600 and 9600 models) are pigment based and are rated by Epson as producing prints that will last without appreciable fading for as much as 80 years.
		Now with the 2200, as well as the 7600 and 9600 printers, all of which use the same new UltraChrome inks, metamerism is a thing of the past.
		Frankly, after a couple of days of testing the 2200 when printing fl and white, and comparing the results to Piezography prints, I’ve now retired that system and will be doing all of my monochrome printing with the new 2200 from now on.

		Unlike the earlier 1280 (also a great 13" printer), 2200 was not designed for "ink," it was designed for "pigment" which is chemically very different and better in terms of both color and permanence.
		The 2200 self-cleans when you restart it, which is a reason to turn it off if you're going to let it sit unused.
		The 2200 is, IMO, just about the worst possible machine for routine desktop printing: it's slow, it's expensive, the "pigments" are more expensive than the inks on lesser machines, and it's not as flashy/intense color-wise as "ink" machines for signs and intense graphics...2200 was designed specifically for subtle photos.

		We did some test prints at 720 and 1440 DPI with the Epson 2200 and found the quality of the 720 DPI prints very good on matte paper.
		The main reason to get a 2200 is the lower metamerism of the 2200 compared to the 9500/7500 and 2000.
		With 260gr it is sturdy enough and still flexible to feed through the 2200 (you might need to adjust the thickness lever).
