221B Baker Street - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The street number 221b has never been officially assigned to any property in Baker Street, which is due to the fact that the local council only has the power to number the exterior of buildings, and not interior apartments.
When street numbers were re-allocated in the 1930's, a block of eight numbers including 221 was assigned to an Art Deco building known as Abbey House, constructed in 1932 for the Abbey Road Building Society (subsequently the Abbey National), which they occupied until 2002.
With much of Baker Street devastated during the blitz, little trace is left of the original buildings today, and most of them are of post-war construction, except for those houses that fortunately still stand in what was known as Upper Baker Street.

Originally, Baker Street addresses ran from number 1 (on the east side at Portman Square) up to 42 (on the east side at Paddington Street) and then from 44 (on the west side at Paddington Street down to number 85 (on the west side back at Portman Square).
After the merging of Baker Street and York Place, the houses were numbered more logically with "odd numbers" on the left (the west) and "evens" on the right (the east) looking north up the street.
When Upper Baker Street was incorporated and the numbering was extended north of Marylebone Street, a "number 221" was at last created and that is where today's "blue plaque" is to be found.

Clues are sometimes purely conventional (like something a witness would actually be able to tell you), but sometimes, you get little language puzzles which you have to decypher.
This is where the only notable change compared to the board game comes in: of course, you can't present the solution 'freestyle' like in 'real life', but you have to answer specified questions instead.
Last, but not least, the single player fun is kind of limited, because even though there is a final rating depending on how many clues you needed to solve a case, it is hardly challenging without competition.
