Greater ranges with the Marks 1 and 2 guns could be achieved only by digging the trails down a foot for each additional 1000 yards range desired and laying by field clinometer, the maximum practicable being three feet for 9500.
This was not a modified Mark 1 or 2 but an entirely new gun on a new carriage which permitted an elevation of 37°30', giving a range of 11 000 yards.
First produced as the QF 18-pr Mark 4 in 1918 this gun was converted in 1935 to 25-pr by fitting a loose liner of 3.45-inch (87.6-mm) calibre.

The 25 pounder was the major British field gun/howitzer that was introduced into service just before World War II and was the British Army's primary artillery system into the 1950s.
However the 25 pdr was nevertheless considered by all to be one of the best artillery pieces in use, and in particular its HE round was particularly deadly due to excellent embrittlement of the metal casing.
Mark II The Mark II, many of which were built by Canada in Sorel, Quebec, entered service with the Royal Canadian Artillery in 1940.

A single layer could not lay the howitzer; two men were needed, using a system reminiscent of World War 1 equipments long-since declared obsolete.
The carriage lacked strength; stub axles failed, so that on long hauls at high speed the howitzer could not be towed but had to be carried on the back of a truck.
It is connected to the underside of the carriage by three short wire ropes instead of rigid metal stays.

I have a spare forestay, various size cables such any two shrouds can be replaced, turnbuckles, toggles, etc. We have added hinged trays under port and starboard cockpit seats, and other nook and cranny storage so that parts, screws, tape, drills, etc. are available for most any eventuality.

There are no markings on the plate or the keeper but you can see evidence of being on a belt.
