After stationing in England, Gibraltar and Malta, he came to Canada in 1868 with the 29th Regiment and remained as an instructor with the Canadian Militia and then was commandant 1874-84 of Sandhurst.
In July 1884 he was appointed commander of the Canadian Militia, and to him fell the task of organizing and leading the expedition during the NORTH-WEST REBELLION of 1885.
Nevertheless the campaign was successfully concluded and a grateful Canadian Parliament voted Middleton a monetary award, while the British government made him a KCMG and promoted him lieutenant-general.

Ranil Wickremesinghe’s erstwhile allies, the four Tamil parties that had representatives in parliament have formed the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) which has accepted the LTTE as a paramount factor in the struggle for the rights of the Tamil people and that the government should have meaningful talks only with the LTTE.
The TNA has stated that in the next parliament they will not support either the PA or the UNF.
To achieve that the working-class must in the first place destroy the links that it now has with the ruling capitalist formation and with the other capitalist formation that is attempting to control parliament.

Canada's minister of industry said yesterday that the Canadian Parliament adopted amendments to the Telecommunications Act allowing for the establishment of a national do-not-call list.
Gustavson said the CMA is happy with the passage of the amendments, especially one that creates an exemption allowing calls to consumers with whom a business has an existing relationship.
