In contrast to the 2D simulations, the peak response is constant along sections where the valley bottom is flat, and varies only gradually as the valley depth changes, except near the edges.
This ratio is obtained by dividing the amplitude of the Fourier transform of the synthetic accelerogram at F by twice the amplitude of the Fourier transform of the free-field accelerogram (Fig.
The 2D spectra exhibit islands of strong response in the 3 to 5 Hz region.

Animal Logic also employed a smaller crew of 2D compositors to work on key sequences of the project that combined live action with 2D effects such as matte paintings.
Their work can be seen in those where CG elements appear in live action plates and in the final sequence where lead character John Crichton sets off the wormhole and effects are added to the practical machine that he sits in.
Animal Logic was awarded a prestigious AEAF Award for their visual effects work on Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars at the Awards ceremony in Sydney on December 5, 2004.

Across the Great Divide: Making the Leap from 2D to 3D   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-19)
This document is simply intended as a set of practical suggestions for 2D animators who are considering making the leap to 3D in order to bolster their viability in the current job market.
The challenge for 2D effects animators who wish to convert to 3D is a bit more formidable than the road faced by the character animators, and this has everything to do with the nature of 3D effects animation.
On the non-Maya front, there is Houdini: a separate animation package which is particularly suitable to 3D effects work in terms of its procedural architecture, but seemingly at the expense of a coherent interface.

You know, things that don't revolve around 3d composed effects.

CMOS design near the limit of scaling
To keep adverse 2D electrostatic effects on threshold voltage (i.e., short-channel effects) under control (discussed in more detail in Section 3), gate-oxide thickness is reduced nearly in proportion to channel length, as shown in Figure 1.
Similarly, depletion effects occur in polysilicon in the form of a thin space-charge layer near the oxide interface which acts to reduce the gate capacitance and inversion-charge density for a given gate drive.
One factor is that part of the capacitance loss comes from quantum-mechanical effect in the inversion layer, which is present regardless of the gate material [2].

Buttons, checkboxes and other standard 2D UI details can all easily be replaced by 3D equivalents, but you could also do a whole new interface in 3D, working in ways that aren't possible with 2D.
Depending on how far you go, the effects may not necessarily require to be created by calls to a 3D engine.
Starting with 2D effects, we can, for example, use a LayerManager to cause transparent layers of clouds or smog to appear to drift in front of each other, thus simulating different distances and creating a sense of depth.

CG Software Trends: The Convergence of 2D and 3D
Many of today's leading 2D and 3D software vendors are responding to this need by expanding their product offerings across all disciplines.
Rather than focusing on just 2D or just 3D, they're striving - through new-product development, mergers, acquisitions, or alliances - to provide full-featured 2D and 3D applications that can be used by all artists throughout a facility.
Vendors then took that idea slightly further by incorporating some 2D effects and compositing tools, such as basic texture mapping and rotoscoping, into 3D packages, and some 3D modeling functionality, such as the ability to create simple geometry, into 2D packages.
