The 2nd Armored Division is a Free French non-standing provisional unit originally authorized by the NWHA Board of Directors for participation in the Normandy event held June 3rd and 4th, 2000 at Fort Stevens, Oregon.
Initial elements of the division were dispatched to blunt the counterattacks launched by the German reserve panzer divisions on Mortain on August 6-9.
The 1st French Army kept its rendezvous with Leclerc’s 2nd armored division, the first to reach the Rhine, reclaiming the German-speaking province of Alsace and Strasbourg, its capital, which Hitler had annexed to the Reich.

 2nd Armored Division
Under the 10 division redesign from the Secretary of the Army, the 2nd Armored Division at Fort Hood cased its division colors and was reflagged as the 4th Infantry Division in December 1995.
The division sent brigades to participate in exercises in Germany from 1973 through 1979, and in 1987 the division was engaged in the largest deployment to Europe since World War II as a part of the Third Corps exercise "Reforger 87" to demonstrate the ability to deploy and fight in support of NATO.
In December 1995 the the 2nd Armored Division was again redesignated as the Fourth Infantry Division (mechanized), stationed in Colorado.
