The division won hard fought victories at Soissons and Mont Blanc, for which it was awarded the French Fourragère in the colors of the Croix de Guerre.
The Division crossed the Rhine 21 March and advanced to Hadamar and Limburg an der Lahn, relieving elements of the 9th Armored Division, 28 March.
The 2d Infantry Division was chosen to spearhead the United Nations Command response to this incident and on 21 August, Task Force Brady, a group of ROK soldiers American infantry and engineers, swept into the area and cut down the infamous "Panmunjom Tree".

The 2nd tenaciously held its position during the Battle of the Bulge, preventing further German attempts to reconquer Belgium.
In April 1945, the 2nd Infantry Division overran Leipzig-Schönefeld, a subcamp of the Buchenwald concentration camp, where the camp staff forced the prisoners to work for the Hugo Schneider AG (Hasag) firm.
After occupying the camp, the members of the 2nd Infantry Division arranged for proper burial of the dead and collected evidence to be used in the prosecution of the SS personnel.

On November 11th, 2nd Division was in reserve near Le Quesnoy and went on to serve in the Army of Occupation in Germany until March 1919 when it was officially disbanded.
By the end of November 1914 the division as a whole had suffered 8,355 casualties since mid-October: from this it is possible to gauge the ferocity of the fighting.
The division then moved north, and fought in the Battle of the Lys in April 1918, and then later during the allied offensives of 1918 fought at the Canal du Nord, Cambrai and the Battle of the Selle, ending the war in reserve near Bavai.

Initial elements of the division were dispatched to blunt the counterattacks launched by the German reserve panzer divisions on Mortain on August 6-9.
Two divisions guarded the ports and the 11th Panzer division was held in reserve.

My son is in the 2nd division and I read this on the DOD website, I didnt know these guys but it feels like they were family.

We are a team from the greater Belfast area and we play in the B.B. old boy's league, we are currently in the 2nd division although last year we were in the 3rd division and got promoted.
We were in the 1st division but we decided to drop down into a lower division (the 3rd division) because some of our players went onto play for other teams such as amateur league teams and so on.
