2point4 children - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
2point4 children was a British sitcom that ran on BBC1 from 1991 to 1999.
The title refers to the "average" size of a UK family, although Andrew Marshall, the writer, has indicated that Ben could be considered almost another child, hence "point four".
Their children were Jenny (played by Georgina Cates - under the name 'Clare Woodgate' - in the first two seasons, subsequently by Clare Buckfield) and David (played by John Pickard).

The family at the center of "2point4 Children" are not the weird and stupid people you normally find in British sitcoms, although weird and stupid things happen to them.
At the bottom of the main "2point4 Children" page the IMDB lists "Dad", but this show is nothing like "Dad".

On the Surface, the Porters are a normal family – indeed, even the series’ title 2 Point 4 Children, the fabled average family size, alludes to their normality (as well as the fact that the husband/father is still a bit of a child himself).
Yet, though the individual members’ central–heating engineer Ben; his wife, catering worker Bill; and their teenage children David and Jenny – are unexceptional, the situations in which the family find themselves are anything but.
2 point 4 children proved to be a success for the BBC as it was first screened in 1991 and by the third series in 1993 it was attracting ratings of more than 13 million, the sort of figure also being enjoyed by One Foot in the Grave.

The recurring storyline in this first series is Bill's growing awareness that she may be missing out on a 'wilder' side of life because of the ever-present demands of her family.
Obviously the public warmed to them as well because 2point4 Children ran on the BBC for nine years and at its peak in the mid-1990s, was pulling in ratings of 13 million.

One of the most consistantly entertaining and certainly the strangest of the BBC's sitcoms from the 1990s, 2point4 Children was an ofter inspired slice of surrealism that pitched what seemed at first sight to be just another sitcom family into a strange world of guardian angels, curses and alien visitations.
