300 (comic book) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
300 is a graphic novel, written and illustrated by Frank Miller with painted colors by Lynn Varley.
The comic, however, takes great liberties in its narrative, for example depicting Xerxes I of Persia as a bald fl man with piercings and the traitor Ephialtes of Trachis as a hunchback.
The comic was particularly inspired by the 1962 film, The 300 Spartans, a movie that Miller watched as a young boy.

 Night Flight Comics·Frank Miller's 300
Frank Miller's adventure series 300 is a riveting story of one of the most under-reported and glorious battles of the Persian-Greco war.
Most comics readers, being literate and generally interested in adventurous stuff, probably have some background in Greek history, and might even know something about the Persian invasion of Greece.
In mid-August of the same year, at a time when most Greek city-states were withdrawing from their holding positions for religious observation of the Carneia and for Olympic competitions, a small force of 300 Spartans, led by King Leonidas, marched north to Thermopylae to fortify that important pass.

300 Spartans - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The 300 Spartans were a band of Spartan Warriors handpicked by Leonidas, King of Sparta, during the invasion of Xerxes during the Greco-Persian Wars.
The 300 were a "sire only" unit, meaning that each soldier had already sired a son.
According to the History written by Herodotus, Leonidas was motivated by a prophecy, given by the Oracle of Delphi, that for Sparta to survive the Persian invasion, one of her two kings must die in battle.

The Spartans are carved from the rocky terrain of Greece.
"300" is an absolutely stunning recounting of the heroism of the ancient Spartans as they stood and fell before the might of the largest armed force on the planet.
This is truly the power of the comic book medium, a power well-remembered by those of us who dropped the melodrama and tissue paper plots of the X-clones long ago.

Collectors Society Message Boards: Marvel donates 300,000 comics to French museum
Jean-Pierre Mercier, who manages the collection for France's National Center for Comic Books and Images, said he was "flabbergasted" when he learned in March that Marvel Enterprises wanted to donate the huge quantity of comic books dating back as far as the 1950s.
The comics are being sorted into five identical collections, two for the center and others for France's National Library and a museum in Amadora, Portugal, said Catherine Bourgouin, spokeswoman of the Angouleme museum.
if the comic book museum is going to give most of this overstock away (what are they going to do with 1,000 copies of new warriors #3?) and encourage comic readers/collectors in europe, i don't have a problem.

Observers will note that there aren't many high-profile DC products in that month's listing - but where it surpassed Marvel was in volume of releases.
"This was right at the end of the comics recession and preceded the increase in Marvel's number of offerings." By contrast, in October 2005, DC ranked 91 items to Marvel's 78.
Since Marvel has often been able to outsell DC in units despite having fewer offerings, this change suggests that DC is digging into Marvel's per-title performance advantage.
