It was during this period that the regiment was reinforced and its title modified to "184th Regimental Combat Team" In July 1943 the regiment left San Francisco bound for the Japanese held Aleutian Islands.
When the 31st Infantry Regiment was fully reconstituted, it replaced the 184th in the 7th Infantry Division's Order of Battle, and on 20 January 1946, the colors were cased and the regiment inactivated.
The regiment was reformed almost a year later in Sacramento as a part of the newly formed 49th Infantry Division, and it quickly settled down into the cycle of drills and annual training at Camp San Luis Obispo.

The 31st Infantry was activated on 13 August 1916 in the Philippines Islands.
On 19 January 1946, the 31st Infantry was reorganized as part of the 7th Infantry Division, and the Shanghai Bowl, which had been recovered from Corregidor, was returned to the unit.
In early August, the 31st Infantry was ordered on the line to relieve elements of the 24th Division in Mundung Ni Valley and on “Heartbreak Ridge.” At the end of April 1952, the 31st Infantry was on line in the central sector of the Korean Battle Front.

Mississippi Infantry was organized by the increase of the 5th Infantry Battalion to a regiment during the winter of 1861-1862.

The 2nd Battalion, 124th Infantry, is cited for outstanding performance of duty in action against the enemy, on Mindanao, Philippine Islands, during the period 22 April 1945 to 27 June 1945.
On 31 July 1944, the entire regiment, reinforced by an infantry battalion, launched a counterattack, to the east toward Niumen Creek, to relieve the pressure on the extreme southern flank and to secure a position from which the enemy could be enveloped and cut off.
On 7 May 1945, the 3rd Battalion, 124th Regiment, with the mission of seizing an objective in rear of the enemy fortified position, thereby cutting his communication to the rear, advanced around the flank of the 2nd Battalion in an encircling movement.

C.A. Evans soon became colonel of the regiment, then brigadier-general, and during the Appomattox campaign, as well as the preceding one, was in command of the division that made the last charge at Appomattox Court House.
The 31st Georgia in 1864 was heavily engaged in the series of battles at Wilderness and Spotsylvania; it also participated in Early's Valley Campaign with action at Monocacy, Kernstown, Third Winchester and Cedar Creek.
Only 66 from the regiment were armed and in the line of battle at Appomattox Court House, where some of the members are believed to have fired the last rounds of the war; they were in combat, even as Lee was surrendering to Grant.
