  3554 Amun at AllExperts
3554 Amun is an M-type Aten asteroid (meaning it crosses Earth's orbit) and a Venus-crosser.
It was discovered on 4 March, 1986 by Carolyn and Eugene Shoemaker at Mount Palomar Observatory.
Amun was once considered metallic, based on its M-type spectrum.

That distinction belongs to the NEA known as 3554 Amun.
Amun is only two kilometers in diameter, the size of a typical open-pit mine on Earth, with a mass of thirty billion (3x10^10) tons.
Not counting the value of its major nonmetallic components (such as carbon, nitrogen, sulfur, and phosphorus) and its minor and trace nonmetallic components (such as germanium, gallium, arsenic, and antimony), the total market value of Amun in Earth's metals market is $20,000 billion.

3554 Amun is about the size of a typical open-pit mine on Earth, with a mass of roughly thirty billion tons.
The nickel and iron in Amun are worth something like $8 trillion, the platinum-group metals perhaps $6 trillion, and the cobalt maybe another $6 trillion.
3554 Amun is pretty easy to get to and it's only one of several hundred asteroids that cross Earth's orbit.

To get an idea of just how much wealth is to be had from asteroids, one can examine 3554 Amun, a mile wide lump of iron, nickel, cobalt, platinum, and other metals that has an orbit closely resembling that of Earth's.
Though it is one of the smallest known metallic asteroids, 3554 Amun contains thirty times as much metal as has ever been mined by human beings in the history of Earth.

Personal Finance Advice - » Getting REALLY Rich - 3554 Amun
There are three key things to know about 3554 Amun: First, its orbit crosses that of Earth; second, it’s the smallest M-class (metal-bearing) asteroid yet discovered; and finally, it contains (at today’s prices) roughly $8 trillion worth of iron and nickel, $6 trillion of cobalt, and $6 trillion of platinum like metals.
Allowing 3554 Amun to crash (and there is NO other way to say it) into Earth is EXACTLY the kind of thing scientists are trying to prevent, NOT encourage.
The reason I suggest an autonomous miner is that operating such a unit in “real time” would have the drawback of a “lag time” between giving the unit a command and it receiving it, a time that would range from about 6 to 30 minutes (double that if you wanted a response.)

If transportation to orbit is inexpensive following development of the tourist industry, much of Earth's power could be provided from space, simultaneously providing a large profitable business and dramatically reducing pollution on Earth.
Asteroidal Metals John Lewis, in Mining the Sky: Untold Riches from the Asteroids, Comets, and Planets estimates that the current market value of the metals in 3554 Amun, one small nearby asteroid, is about $20 trillion.
Once we can easily launch thousands of people into orbit, and build giant solar power satellites, it shouldn't be too difficult to retrieve 3554 Amun and other asteroids to supply Earth with all the metals we will ever need.

Wingo details the value of 3554 Amun, a Near Earth Asteroid, which he claims amounts to $20 trillion dollars worth of metal, that would easily enable a complete switch to the Hydrogen Economy.
'Four out of every one hundred craters on the Moon were made by asteroids of the same material as Amun' he adds.
The author says that of the estimated 28,000 big meteors on the Moon, that made a crater of at least 1 kilometer in diameter, between 15% - 63% would have their mass still preserved- due to their low impact velocity, and because no oxidization has occurred due to the lack of oxygen on the Moon.
