.357 SIG - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The.357 SIG cartridge uses a bottlenecked.40 SandW case crimped to the 9mm Luger bullet; this is why the 357 sig is not written as ".357", as it is not truly a.357 bullet but instead a standard 9mm parabellum (.3550").
Another disadvantage is that because the 357 SIG uses a.355 bullet at higher velocities than other 9 mm cartridges, very few bullets have been specially designed for it, and the.357 Magnum bullets that are designed for the same velocity range cannot be used due to their diameter.
The 357 SIG is a good police cartridge; however, it does not quite reach the performance of the venerable.357 Magnum with heavier loads (over 125 gr.) or even with typical commercial loadings in 125 gr.

 HandGunInfo.com: 357SIG: 357 Sig and 9mm Comparison
In fact, the 357 SIG has gone a lot farther than the 10mm ever did (the 10 is a fantastic round, please don't misunderstand me), and the 357 SIG continues to slowly make new inroads and continue expanding in the market, despite all the naysayers.
The short neck of the 357 Sig can be easily compensated for by using a firm taper crimp and possibly a light cannelure groove on high quality plated bullets, or a sealant/glue, or using slower powders like AA#9, or using a.3555 bullet diameter, which all but eliminate bullet setback and over pressure problems.
The 357 SIG can be loaded for the recoil sensitive, for deep penetration or shallow penetration, for typical pistol blast or very loud and intimidating blast.

Nine years after its introduction, the 357 SIG is going strong, yet rarely does a book go into print today, reloading manual or historical reference, that does not conclude its description of the 357 SIG cartridge with some note of skepticism of the cartridge's usefulness, or ultimate survival as a commercial product.

I know the 357 Sig has devoted followers and is a good round, but I'm not convinced it will do anything better than the best.40 SandW or.45 ACP rounds, much less the 10 mm rounds.
One difference I'm aware of: The SIG uses.355 diameter bullets, therefore, the excellent selection of.357 revolver bullets are not available to the SIG handloader (who must use 9mm bullets).
