Between the years 427 to 425 BC Corfu was ravaged and savage civil war between the aristocratic and democratic parties, the former favouring the Corinthians and the latter the Athenians.
In 303 BC the island was occupied for a short time by the Lacedeamonian general Cleonymos, then regains its independence and later it was attacked and conquered by the Syracussian tyrant Agathokles.

About 370-360 BC Eudoxus of Cnidus (Εύδοξος ο Κνίδιος) invented a model of twenty-seven concentric spheres by which he was able to calculate the sun's annual motions through the zodiac, the moon's motion including its wobble, and the planets' retrograde motion.
About 330 BC Heraclides of Pontus (Ηρακλείδης ο Ποντικός) said that the earth turns daily on its axis "while the heavenly things were at rest..., considered the cosmos to be infinite..., [and] with the Pythagoreans, considered each planet to be a world with an earth-like body and with an atmosphere" (Dreyer 1906:123-125).
About 310-260 BC Aristarchus of Samos (Αρίσταρχος ο Σάμιος) (310-230) BC, in On the Sizes and Distances of the Sun and Moon, used trigonometry to estimate the size of the Moon and its distance by the Earth's shadow during a lunar eclipse.

We find a true vegetarian again in Theophrastus, Aristotle’s pupil.
Born in Lesbos in 372 BC he studied in Athens under Aristotle and became his friend, travelling back to Lesbos with him, where Aristotle established a philosophical circle in Mytilene, the capital.
It was here that Aristotle first studied biology and scrutinised the natural aims of plants and animals, for in knowing their final goals he believed that they could understand their structure and development.

Mencius (most accepted dates: 372 BC – 289 BC; other possible dates: 385 BC – 303 BC or 302 BC) was born in the State of Zou (鄒國), now forming the territory of the county-level city of Zoucheng (邹城市), Shandong province, only 30 km (18 miles) south of Qufu, the town of Confucius.
He served as an official during the Warring States Period (403 BC – 221 BC) in the State of Qi (齊 qì) from 319 BC to 312 BC.
He expressed his filial devotion when he took an absence of three years from his official duties for Qi to mourn his mother's death.
