 British Light Infantry Regiments
The regiment was in Boston at the commencement of the dispute between the American Colonies and the mother country, and fought at Bunker's Hill, and in all the principal actions during the first three years of the War of Independence.
The regiment was among the troops sent to the relief of Quebec at the outbreak of the American War, and served in the operations under Burgoyne down to the surrender of Saratoga.
In 1755, the regiment went with reinforcements to North America, and was with Braddock in the disastrous attempt on Fort du Quesne, on the Ohio, and afterwards in the attacks on Ticonderoga and Fort Niagara, and in the expedition against Montreal.

Regiment of Foot is not one of the official “Ancient Corps” of the British army, it is one of the oldest and finest regular British regiments.
The regiment fought at the sieges of Valencia de Alcantara and Albuquerque in Spring 1705, the proceeded to Badajoz for the second unsuccessful siege of that town.

After the Seven Years War ended and peace came in 1763 the 37th of Foot was sent to Minorca where disease reduced the ranks and the effectiveness of the Regiment.
The 37th were ordered to America about October 1775 and found them selves posted to the 111rd Brigade under Major General Jones alongside the 10th 38th and the 52nd foot and landed at Long Island.
The 37th went under a change and now was brigaded with the IV Brigade with the 17th, 46th, and the 64th foot.

Regiment (Fraser’s Highlanders) were assembled as Iverness and after being recruited to full strength the regiment departed Gl asgow in 1757 en route to America.
At the cessation of hostilities in 1814 the Regiment was gradually returned to St.John’s where it formed the Imperial Garrison until ordered to disband by the Prince Regent on June 24 1816 as part of a general reduction of Fencible Corps in North America.
When the Royal Newfoundland Regiment were transferred to Nova Scotia in 1805, the citizens of the town formed the Loyal Volunteers of St. John’s which was a rifle company with a nominal strength of 500.

 War of 1812 - Red River Redcoats/Lord Selkirk
The regiment was formed in 1801 from the remnants of four Swiss regiments that had been raised by the British for service in the Austrian army: Roverea's, Bachmann's, Salis's and de Courten's.
It was stationed in Upper Canada and saw action in the Niagara peninsula at the siege of Fort Erie in August 1814 where it was involved in the disastrous assault on Snake Hill.
In 1881 it was amalgamated with the 67th (South Hampshire) Regiment to form the Hampshire Regiment and was awarded the title of "Royal" in 1946.

Formed in 1881 from the amalgamation of the 37th (North Hampshire) Regiment and the 67th (South Hampshire) Regiment.
This is the King's Crown version of the badge, as the Hampshire were granted the 'Royal' title in 1946, although this badge did not appear until 1949, and of course on the accession of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953, the badge changed to the Queen's Crown.
The capbadge of the Hampshire Regiment was affectionately known as 'the cat and cabbage'.
