		It was a corker of a day after 774 ABC Melbourne toppled 3AW as the top talk station for the first time in 10 years.
		For 3AW it was not a corker but a fizzer.
		The 10-week ratings period from July 28 to August 31 and September 15 to October 19 was bustling with news: the September 11 anniversary, the Commonwealth Games, the AFL finals, the prospect of war with Iraq, and the first week after the Bali bombings.

	WHISTLEBLOWERS SET TO BOYCOTT ABA CONTRA FOR COMMENTS INQUIRY INTO 3AW.
		It had been speculated that because there is a Federal Liberal Government and 3AW has close Liberal ties, (Chairman Peter Nixon was a Fraser Government MP) that the ABA may have decided it would be politically prudent to go soft on the radio station in order to protect their own political interests.
		However Hoser is quick to point out that this speculation is merely conjecture at the moment, although he adds ‘The inference is quite reasonable’.
		Hoser summed up saying ‘Assuming that 3AW has integrity, then you would think that they would welcome the probe into them to be made public and be done rigorously and properly so as to remove any doubts about them and clear the air once and for all’.

		Talk station 3AW successfully defended its title as Melbourne's top radio station despite 774 ABC Melbourne clawing back ground in all the major time slots.
		In the fourth ACNielsen survey for the year released yesterday, 3AW slipped 0.4 percentage points to 15.9 for the ratings period from March 30 to May 3, and May 11 to June 14.
		3AW station manager Shane Healy said the number one ranking was an "outstanding result", especially as the station had expected a greater drop in numbers after the end of the war in Iraq.

		The 14-times sacked Hinch sparked controversy at 3AW over the comment, where Hookes had also been a presenter, and said he expected to be sacked over his remarks.
		Hinch said he stood by his comments, but understood after a meeting with 3AW management today that there were ``extenuating circumstances'' behind 3AW's decision not to reveal details about Hookes' relationship with his wife.
