Networking company 3Com, which saw its fortunes rise and fall in the heart of Silicon Valley, will move its senior management to its East Coast offices and replace some top executives amid a push to concentrate on its enterprise business.
3Com said Monday it would move its chief executive and other senior management from Santa Clara, Calif., to its offices in Marlborough, Mass., where much of 3Com's enterprise networking business is concentrated.
That transaction, which 3Com said would be completed in the next 30 to 60 days, is a key part of 3Com's effort to get away from selling equipment to telecom service providers in favor of focusing on corporations.

Moving to WAP would be a significant step for 3Com, which has invested heavily to develop a text-based technology called "Web Clipping" for its wireless Palm VII, which was launched in May in the New York area.

3Com is laying off about 220 employees in the United States and Europe, or roughly 12 percent of its workforce.
The Marlborough, Mass.-based networking company earlier this month notified approximately 100 employees in the United States, 90 employees in the United Kingdom and 30 employees in Ireland that their positions would be eliminated, according to a statement filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission late Friday.
3Com said the cost of the moves would total roughly $15 million, charges it expects to take during the current fiscal third quarter, which closes today, through the second quarter of fiscal 2006.
