  YouTube - 3UZ Tower Demolition
Terrific montage of old 3UZ audio and the bilge that used to come out of that tower for 52 years.
I remember 3UZ from the seventies: Bert Newton, John Deeks, Don Lane, races, country music, "Radio Auditions" followed by "Newsbeat" on Sunday mornings, "3-way Turf Talk", and its memorable news theme.
The old 3UZ tower at Lower Plenty has been demolished to make way for a housing estate.

3DB - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Up until 1983, coverage of horse racing was shared in Melbourne between 3DB and 3UZ.
In 1983, 3UZ revamped its program lineup and cancelled all horse racing coverage, leaving 3DB as the sole outlet for racing on Melbourne radio.
In 1987 the HWT sold 3DB to the Albert Family who changed the call letters to 3TT in April 1988 and the station ultimately converted to FM and became 101.1 TT-FM in 1990 - as of 2005 the station uses the moniker Mix 101.1.

Graham Kennedy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-30)
Leaving the ABC, he moved to radio station 3UZ, initially in the record library and later as panel operator for popular radio personality "Nicky" (, real name Clifford Whitta), his first mentor.
Nicky's typically Australian voice and his distinctive manner of deriding live-to-air advertisements made him the idol of listeners, and was a major influence on Kennedy, who would become famous for the using same approach on his own TV show.
Kennedy was not GTV-9's first choice — they had planned to use either 3UZ personality or 3DB's.

From the measurements, the 3uz is little thicker from the center of the pin to the top of the piston.
The 3UZ piston has 4 little openings from the oil rings for oil flow from the outside of the piston to the inside.
From what we found the rods for the 3UZ are also weaker then the 1UZ.

 Early Australian SW Commercial Stations
However, when the new station was launched later in the year 1925, the callsign had changed from 2LC to 2KY, and there was no sign of the projected shortwave unit.
Then in June 1930, a new shortwave transmitter was co-sited with the mediumwave transmitter at 3UZ and a tandem relay was heard on air.
However, a letter to the manager some 25 years later revealed that these was not true shortwave broadcasts, but rather a radiation of the fourth harmonic from the mediumwave transmitter that was operating slightly off channel.

King: The Life and Comedy of Graham Kennedy by Graeme Blundell (On the Box Book Review)
By the time he'd left school Kennedy was determined to try and make it in radio, at that time in the late forties the most popular form of entertainment for most families was "The Wireless".
Graham was lucky enough to land a job as a copy boy with the ABC which in turn led to a job choosing the records for 3UZ, a local Melbourne station.
In 1959 Bert Newton was poached from Channel 9 to join Kennedy and the duo quickly became the stuff of legend, the pair sparking off each other and leading each other on to greater heights of comedy and improvisation.
