The division was reconstituted on 18 June 1926 with its headquarters in Berkeley.
However, the "teeth" of the division was mostly Californian with the Arizona and Colorado regiments replaced by two new California Regiments, the 184th and 185th.
In response to the war in Europe, the California's 40th Infantry Division was mobilized on 3 March 1941 and sent to Camp San Luis Obispo where it remained, except for divisional maneuvers at Fort Lewis, Washington, until the attack on Pearl Harbor.

On 2 Aril, Talisay was occupied and the Division regrouped 8 April, in preparation for the attack on the Japanese defenses in the Negritos--Patog area.
The Division in Korea returned to the U.S. and was deactivated on 19 June 1954, with the Division colors being returned to its California counterpart in ceremony at San Francisco, and once again, there was only one 40th Infantry Division.
The Division was converted from its historic role as Infantry to Armor and redesignated the 40th Armored Division on 1 July 1954.

While there had been talk of leaving the two divisions in Japan, in November 1951 the decision was made for a "swap in place" between the two Guard divisions and the 1st Cavalry and 24th Infantry Division.
In December 1951, the 45th Division arrived in South Korea to take over the positions, equipment and mission of the 1st Cavalry Division; in January, the process was repeated by the 40th and the 24th Infantry Divisions.
Both the 40th and 45th Infantry Divisions were still occupying their positions when the signing of an armistice at Panmunjon finally ended the fighting on July 27, 1953.

I was wondering if you have any knowledge or contact with the other units such as the 40th on Negros, since the 503d PRCT was in combat during this same time.
The picture at the end of the article shows a muddy road that goes to the foot of Hill 3155, also called Dolan Hill, where part of the 40th was in action.
I found regimental logs for the 40th ID with no problem, and would expect you could find the 27th Division or even the 106th logs.
