41 Arietis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
41 Arietis is a star in the constellation Aries.
It does not possess a Greek letter Bayer designation, since this star was added in former times to the now-obsolete constellation Musca Borealis, but is sometimes designated c Arietis.
41 Arietis belongs to the spectral class B8Vn, and has a stellar magnitude of +3.61.

The ram's head consists of the stars alpha Arietis, lambda Arietis, and beta Arietis: alpha Arietis being of the second magnitude and beta Arietis of the third magnitude.
The ram's body consists of the stars alpha Arietis, eta Arietis, epsilon Arietis, 41 Arietis, and 35 Arietis: epsilon Arietis and 41 Arietis being of the fourth magnitude.
The star gamma Arietis, of fourth magnitude, represents the ram's front foot, and the star delta Arietis, also of fourth magnitude, represents the ram's hind foot.

41 Ari   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-11)
Like most class B stars, 41 Ari is a fast rotator, spinning with an equatorial speed of at least 180 kilometers per second, 90 times faster than the Sun, which, given its radius of 2.6 times solar, translates into a rotation period of at most 17 hours.
Orbiting perhaps 15 AU from 41, the companion would take some 30 years to make a full orbit.
Though listed as "variable," modern observations suggest great stability, enough so that 41 Arietis could be used a standard against which to test real variables.

Shining third among the stars of the flat triangle that make the classical figure of Aries, the Ram (for that reason gaining the Gamma designation), Mesarthim actually takes fourth place in the constellation after non-named 41 Arietis, which glows softly off to the northeast.
The name (derived from Arabic) originally came from the same root as that for the Beta star, Sharatan (meaning "the two"), but was corrupted by mistranslations into its current form.
