The 43rd Philippine Scout Infantry Regiment (43rd INF (PS)) was part of USAFFE's Philippine Division, during World War II.
The 43rd Infantry Regiment was formed in June of 1917, at Fort Douglas, Utah.
The 1st Battalion was reactivated on April 1, 1941, formed from troops transferred from the 45th Infantry Division (PS), and the 329 troops of the 1st Battalion served at Pettit Barracks and Camp John Hay.

Having passed the winter at Cumberland Gap, the regiment joined Gen. Bragg at Tullahoma being in a brigade under Gen. Grace -- the Forty-first, Forty-third, Fifty-ninth, and Sixtieth Alabama, and Stallworth's battalion.
At the battle of Drewry's Bluff the regiment was hotly engaged, and lost severely in casualties.
It was then in the trenches of Petersburg from June 1864 to the close, fighting cotinually and taking part in most of the battles that occurred by the attempts of the enemy to flank the onfederate line.

 Tennessee Conf. Regimental Histories
43rd Infantry Regiment [also called 5th East Tennessee Volunteer Regiment] was organized at Knoxville, Tennessee, during December, 1861.
After being exchanged and reorganized as mounted infantry, it was attached to General Vaughn's Brigade and during April, 1864, contained 215 effectives.
Later the regiment fought at Russellville in Tennessee, returned to Virginia, moved to North Carolina where it joined President Davis' escort, and ended the war at Washington, Georgia, in May, 1865, with a force of 123 men..

The regiment was not assigned to any brigade until July 3, 1862, and during this period was occupied, frequently in company detachments, in guarding the bridges in East Tennessee.
On September 15, Inspector General Cooper suggested that Vaughn's old regiment be transferred to his brigade, but instead Brigadier General I. Vaughn was given command of Reynolds' Brigade, and later the remnants of the regiments in his old brigade, the 6Oth, 61st, 62nd Regiments were added to the brigade.
The brigade was mounted in December, 1863, and from that fime on served as cavalry or mounted infantry.

The 43rd Alabama Infantry was organized in Mobile in May 1862 and was sent to Chattanooga where it was placed in Ledbetters Brigade, Heth's Division, Dept. Of East Tennessee.
A partisan regiment, the 7th Tennessee Volunteer Infantry under Colonel William Clift was organized in Scot and Morgan county Tn.
It was not marked as the 43rd's flag but General Chamberlain's units fought with the 60th and 43rd Alabama Infantries capturing both flags, Only the flag of the 60th was turned over to the War Dept. There is a very good chance that the flag in the archives does belong to the 43rd.
