With the collapse of the Axis, the squadron was disbanded in mid 1945.

On 28 October 1999 the squadron was reactivated at AFB Bloemspruit to as an attack helicopter squadron, equipped with the new Rooivalk.
The squadron was reformed on 8 October 1942 as a general reconnaissance squadron and arrived at Aden in January 1943 to fly Blenheim V's.
Reformed in 1946 as a Ventura equipped bomber squadron at Swartkops, the squadron was renumbered as 25 Squadron on 1 January 1951.

 44 Squadron
The squadron was once again fitted with the DC-3 and continued its role as VIP carrier and transport of man and freight, paratrooping and the supply of an ambulance service.
The Squadron operated DC-3’s until they were all sent to 35 Squadron in 1997 to serve in the maritime role and 44 Squadron received the CASA 212.
In 1999 42 Squadron from AFB Swartkops operating the Cessna 185 merged with 44 Squadron bringing the reconnaissance element to the traditional transport squadron.

 SAAF MUSTANGS
The SAAF Museum has been attempting to aquire examlples of important aircraft flown by the SAAF during its history, and one of the ex-Dominican F-51Ds was located in Florida, USA, in 1986 where the remaining aircraft had gone after resale.
However in a flamboyant gesture of appeasement by Trujillo, the fighter squadron operating both F-51Ds and F-47 Thunderbolts was redesignated Esquadron de Caza Ramfis and later Grupo de Caza Ramfis.
The SAAF Museum brought a Mustang in the USA in 1987, and when it was shipped to Cape Town where it arrived 14 November 1987.

 The Blackburn Buccaneer
SAAF Buccaneers were also fitted with a locally-designed reconnaissance pack or the M20 buddy tanker pack.
In the mid-1970s, the SAAF Buccaneers were modified to accommodate a large bomb-bay fuel tanks for ferry flights or tanker operations.
The end of the Cold War meant the withdrawal of Tornado squadrons from Germany, and these newer aircraft were assigned to replace the Buccaneer in the maritime strike role.

The second in command of a squadron was known as the senior pilot, and there was usually a senior observer as well, both of whom would usually be lieutenants.
Squadrons were divided into flights, and for those squadrons providing aircraft for the MAC-ships or catapult flights, there could be an extremely large number of flights, all given a suffix letter.
On 30/03, the squadron transferred for one of two temporary spells aboard Victorious and on 03/04 it shared ten hits with 830 Squadron during a dive bombing attack on the Tirpitz in Norway.

The 12th Squadron’s P-39s came from Christmas Island, the 44th was sent from Hawaii and the 70th Fighter Squadron’s P-39s arrived at Guadacanal on 21 Dec.’42.
The Squadrons which made up the 18th Fighter Group were not assigned until 11 March 1943 at Espiritu Santo Island, when the 12th, 44th and 70th Squadrons were assigned to the 18th Fighter Group as that unit was transferred from 7th AF to 13th Air Force.
The 44th Squadron remained at Clark Field to provide sole air protection of the entire South Pacific, Philippine Islands and Formosa areas, with their single squadron of F-80Cs, while at the same time providing pilot rotation resources for the two 18th units fighting in Korea.

The 46th and 72d Fighter Squadrons, 15th Fighter Group, transfer from Canton Island in the Phoenix Islands and Wheeler Field, Territory of Hawaii respectively to Makin Island in the Gilbert Islands with P-39's.
Personnel and equipment of the 154th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron and the Weather Reconnaissance Detachment are subsequently integrated, and the unit is redesignated the 154th Weather Reconnaissance Squadron (Medium) on 12 May 44.

 3 Squadron RAAF - Pilots
Both Squadron Leaders McLachlan and Peter Heath, who lost his life early in the war, were trained as Army Co-op pilots and not as "fighter pilots" and as Senior Permanent Air Force Officers.
After completion of hostilities in Syria, the Squadron was transferred to the Libyan Campaign and took an active part in opposing the Luftwaffe, and it was not long before Tiny accounted for his first victim.
Rex Bayley had already completed a desert stint with 3 Squadron, and had already earned his DFC in March 1943, at the time he was appointed C.O. of the Squadron in April 1944 during the Italian Campaign.

Throughout the summer of 1942 the squadron carried out night patrols and in September their role extended to convoy patrols.
153 Squadron was formed at Hainault Farm on 4 November 1918 and was intended to be a night fighter unit but the war had ended as the squadron began to assemble.
For the remaining months of the war, it carried out attacks on enemy targets as part of the main force of Bomber Command and after a short period of trooping flights to Italy was disbanded on 28 September 1945.

It was a MiG Sweep along the Yalu flown by the commanders of the three squadrons in the 18th Group.

The first RAF Squadron to take delivery of the Sabre was No 67 Tactical Air Force Squadron, which became operational in May of 1953.
RAF Tactical Air Force Squadrons Nos 3, 4, 20, 26, 67, 71, 93, 112, 130, and 234 reequipped with Sabres and were based in Germany.

In early 1945, the French GR II/33 photo-reconnaissance squadron was equipped with F-6 Mustangs and participated in the fighting that took place when the Allies crossed the Rhine.
The TAF was disbanded in 1957 and the Mustangs retired, one being retained by 42 Squadron for regular target towing duties.
In 1950, 2 Squadron SAAF was supplied with F-51D Mustangs by the United States for Korean War service.

And so it was that at 07h05 on the 28th December 1952 a SAAF C-47 Dakota MkIIIa, serial number 6832, KOD of 44 Squadron, took off from Durban's Stamford Hill Aerodrome for the long flight north along the coast of Mozambique to Lumbo.
Before 6832 returned to Ysterplaat the writer had the honour and privilege of affixing a brass plaque to her inner fuselage noting that it was this very same aircraft that had undertaken the flight to the Comoros, making her mark in the annals of bio-aviation.
The SAAF announced that 6832 would be preserved - without modification - for posterity and become one of the collection of historic aircraft maintained by the SAAF Museum - at that time she was still operational flying maritime and general transport flights out of Ysterplaat Air Force Base.
