While the 31st Infantry moved to the vicinity of Zig-Zag to cover the flanks of troops withdrawing from central and southern Luzon, 30 December, the rest of the Division organized the main and reserve positions on Bataan.
The 31st Infantry Regiment moved to a defensive position on the west side of the Olongapo Road near Layac Junction, 5 January 1942.
On 8 April, the 57th Infantry and the 31st Infantry were lost near the Alangan River, and the 45th Infantry surrendered, 10 April 1942.

This regiment's insignia consisted of an infantry blue shield, on which is a star outlined in white and an abaca tree, and bearing a white canton charged with the badge of the 10th US Infantry.
The pre-Scout 45th was formed in Indiana in 1917 (commemorated by the lion and torch taken from the Indiana coat of arms) by a cadre drawn from the 10th Infantry.

 The Philippine Scouts - 1900-1946

 The Combined Historical Scenario for War in the Pacific
All three infantry regiments of the five divisions from these districts had been formed but engineer and artillery units were not yet equipped.
As in all cases, the first Regiment was the first formed and was in better shape, with the third regiment usually still in it’s forming camps.
Note that the 2nd Regular Regiment was also merged into the 102nd but this is maintained as a separate (understrength) unit due to it’s position at the outbreak of the war.

PS I thought I would switch back and forth between CAP and the 45th avatar.
After reading this, I would guess that the 2nd and 3rd battalions of each regiment are on the shelf, and that if the US Army underwent a massive wartime expansion (like in World War II), the battalions would probably come off the shelf and the 45th would probably be expanded back into its divisional size.

The third Infantry troops were advancing forward and we had a choice to go with them or wait until the rear echelon troops arrived.
I received the P, 0, W. Med; in the Fall of 1970, and in October 1991 I received letter from the Secretary of Defence of the U.S.A. that I was being awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious actions in Combat, which I received in February 1992.

The Japanese began striking Corregidor with artillery barrage on May 1, 1942, and between May 5 and 6 two battalions of the Japanese 61st Infantry Regiment landed at the northeast end of the island.
