By 458 BC and the performance of Aeschylus’ Oresteia (a modern title comprising the trilogy of the Agamemnon, the Libation-Bearers and the Eumenides), the use of a second actor was more developed, as were the physical resources such as the raised stage and moving backdrops.

 Literary Encyclopedia: Aeschylus
Phrynichus had demonstrated the power of tragedy; the historian Herodotus (Histories 6.21) claimed that Phrynichus was fined because his play The Capture of Miletus had caused the Athenians to burst into tears by reminding them of the calamity they had caused.
But at this point the technical resources available to tragic performers were in their infancy, and true dialogue between two characters was undeveloped.
It is in this context that Aeschylus followed Phrynichus as the most successful playwright in Athens, dominating the stage after the older man's death c.473 BC.

From more reliable sources it seems that he was born at Acragas in Sicily around 492 BC and died at the age of sixty.
He was the son of a certain Meton, and was from an important and wealthy local aristocratic family: his grandfather, also called Empedocles, is reported to have been victorious in horse-racing at the Olympic Games in 496 BC.
