4th Infantry Division was reactivated on June 1, 1940 at Fort Benning, Georgia, under the command of MG Walter E. Prosser.
It took part in the Normandy Invasion, with the 8th Infantry Regiment of the 4th Division was one of the first Allied units to hit the beaches at Normandy on D-day, June 6 1944.
The Division returned to the United States in July 1945 and was stationed at Camp Butner North Carolina, preparing for deployment to the Pacific.

Under the 10 division redesign from the Secretary of the Army, the 2nd Armored Division at Fort Hood cased its division colors and was reflagged as the 4th Infantry Division in December 1995.
The Division was thoroughly involved in the training, testing, and evaluation of 72 initiatives to include the Division Capstone Exercise (DCX) I held at the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, California in April 2001, and culminating in the DCX II held at Fort Hood in October 2001.
The transformation of the 4th Infantry Division from a "legacy" division to a "modular" configuration is in tune with the dramatic changes being felt throughout the Army as it carries through and adopts its strategic vision for the future.

The U.S. 4th Marine Division is a division of the United States Marine Corps.
The 23rd Marine Regiment began as infantry detached from the 3rd Marine Division in February 1943, the same month that an artillery battalion of the 12th Marines became the genesis of the 14th Marines and engineer elements of the 19th Marines formed the nucleus of the 20th Marines.
In February 1966, it was reactivated as the lead division in the Marine Corps Reserve, and major units later served with distinction in the Persian Gulf.

 25th Infantry Division Association: The Division
During the period from the summer of 1966 to the spring of 1967 the 25th Division was the largest division in Vietnam with four brigades under its command, the division's 1st and 2nd Brigades as well as the 3rd Brigade, 4th Division and the 196th Light Infantry Brigade.
On 1 August 1967 the 3rd Brigade rejoined the 25th Division and assumed control of the former elements of the 3rd Brigade, 4th Division, the 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry, 2nd Battalion (Mechanized), 22nd Infantry and the 3rd Battalion, 22nd Infantry.
As the 25th Infantry Division (Light) participates in its fourth war the division motto "Ready to Strike, Anytime, Anywhere" is being applied in Iraq as it was in Afghanistan.

 Australian Military Units
The 4th Australian Division was formed in Egypt in February 1916 as part of the scheme to split and duplicate the AIF.
The 4th Infantry Brigade was transferred form the New Zealand and Australian Division, while the 12th and 13th Brigades were formed by duplicating the 4th and 3rd Australian Brigades respectively.
Delays incurred because the 4th Division had to form its own artillery units from scratch meant that the division did not cross to France until June 1916.

First real test of the Division was the battle for the city Coutances, France, on 28 Jul. Coutances was taken the day it was attacked, and from there the Division started a marathon sprint that carried it across France to the German border in an unending chase.
For 4 days, 22-26 Dec, the 4th pounded away at von Rundstedt’s offensive from the flank and finally on 26 Dec, the first Sherman tank lumbered the last few hundred yards over the mine strewn Arlon – Bastogne highway to signal the relief of the 101st AbnD which occupied besieged Bastogne.

By 4 August, the N.K. 4th Division had concentrated its three regiments in the vicinity of Hyopch'on and was studying the American dispositions and defenses opposite it on the east side of the Naktong.
The enemy division apparently had its 5th Regiment on the north in front of the 19th Infantry, the 16th Regiment on Cloverleaf and Obong-ni, part of the 18th Regiment back of the 16th, and the remainder of it scattered throughout the bulge area, but mostly in the south and east.
The destruction, for all practical purposes, of the N.K. 4th Division in the battle of the Naktong Bulge was the greatest setback suffered thus far by the North Korean Army.

The 4th cleared Bois de Serres, 12 November, advanced through Dieuze and crossed the Saar, 21-22 November, to establish and expand bridgehead and took Singling and Bining before being relieved 8 December.
Six weeks later the Division jumped off from Luxembourg City in an eastward plunge that carried it across the Moselle River at Treir,, south and east to Worms, and across the Rhine, 24-25 March 1945.

Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 4TH Infantry Division Artillery was constituted on 19 November 1917 in the Regular Army as Headquarters Battery, 4TH Field Artillery Brigade, and assigned to the 4TH infantry Division.
With the realignment and downsizing of the Army force, Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 4TH Infantry Division Artillery (Mechanized), was reassigned to Fort Hood, Texas, on 15 December 1995, where it replaced the deactivating 2D Armored Division Artillery.
