	Welcome to the 4TH BATTALION
		The 4th Battalion, 2nd Brigade of the South Carolina State Guard is based in Williamston, SC.
		The 4th Battalion is commanded by Major John Shands and it's mission is to support all military operations as required, in the Military District of South Carolina.
		The 4th Battalion has a long and proud history of service to the state of South Carolina and that tradition is continued to this day by the men and women which make up the 4th.

		The 3rd Ranger Battalion was organized on May 21, 1943, in the vicinity of Nemours, Algeria, from a cadre of personnel from the 1st Ranger Battalion.

		The 1st Ranger Battalion would cross the line of departure, which was a road running generally parallel to and about three and a half miles south of Highway 7, and move to Cisterna under coverage of darkness by way of previously reconnoitered routes.
		Upon arriving at Cisterna, the battalion was to enter the town, destroy the enemy in it, occupy the ground to the immediate northwest, and prepare to repel enemy counterattacks.

		Rangers were to fire their weapons, crawl or run for the objective without deliberate or conscious thought, with each Ranger knowing his job without hesitation or improvisation.
		At Salerno the Rangers once again secured critical objectives during the amphibious assault, but, cut off by the rapid German response to the main landings, they were forced to hold their positions for about three weeks, a defensive mission unsuitable for such light units.

		On January 16th, 1943 the 6615th Ranger Force was created as a provisional unit composed of the 1st, 3rd and 4th Ranger Battalions with attached supporting units.
