		Britannia Reverse of the 1969 Fifty New Pence
		The shrinking of the fifty pence was part of the trend towards smaller and lighter coins.
		A commemorative fifty pence was issued in 1973 to mark Britain joining the European Economic Community, and from 1992, the fifty pence has been increasingly used to commemorate special events, particularly with European connections.

		The British decimal fifty pence (50p) coin – often pronounced "fifty pee" – was issued on October 14, 1969 in the run-up to decimalisation to replace the ten shilling note.
		The sides are not straight but are curved so that the centre of curvature is the opposite apex of the coin, allowing the coin to roll freely and have its diameter measured correctly in slot machines (see also: curve of constant width).
		This shape was also later used for the twenty pence piece.

		The mid 70s fifty pence peices (1974-1977) are quite difficult to find in nice uncirculated condition and they are not particularly common in good EF condition, but as with all modern coins with normal mintages it not difficult to find normally circulated specimens.
		The 1982 50 pence is surprising difficult to find in nicer grades and even in circulated grades it appears to be less common than its mintage figures suggest, so there may have be some misreporting of mintages between 1981 and 1983.
		With the introdution of the 20 pence in 1986 and to a lesser extent the pound coin in 1990 the circulation requirement for 50 pence piece was reduced.
