5150 (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
5150 is the seventh album by American hard rock band Van Halen, released in 1986 (see 1986 in music).
This was the first album recorded with new lead singer Sammy Hagar, who replaced David Lee Roth.
It was named after Eddie Van Halen's home studio, 5150, which is a California police term for a mentally disturbed person (a reference to Section 5150 of the California Welfare and Institutions Code).

Van Halen - Satan Stole My Teddybear
The album was recorded in Fresno, California, and the sad part of it is I saw the show a couple nights before in the Bay Area, and the band seemed to put forth a better effort that show then they did at the live recordings.
This album should have been probably made as a double CD allowing one disc for each of the singers, but it was not to be.
Not only does it neglect some tracks that deserved to make this album, but it brings up bitter memories of a time when we thought all was right with the band again, and they were back on their way to prominence.

1984 (Van Halen album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
1984 is the sixth album by American hard rock band Van Halen.
Arguably, 1984 is Van Halen's most popular album, and their final album featuring singer David Lee Roth, who left the band later in the year over escalating tensions between him and Edward Van Halen, as well as Roth's desire to pursue a solo career.
Additionally, 1984 was the first Van Halen album to be recorded at Edward Van Halen's home studio, 5150, which lent its name to their follow-up effort, their first album with former Montrose vocalist/guitarist and solo artist Sammy Hagar.

Despite its faults, "5150" is a fine album and an essential rock album from the mid-80s.
5150 came out in mid-1986 and one-upped 1984 by going to #1 (but in all fairness, "1984" was #2 behind Michael Jackson's "Thriller", the biggest album of all time...
When I first the album in the late 1980's, I loved it, even tho I was a bigger fan of the DLR lineup, I did think 5150 was a rocking album.

 Daily Vault - June 21, 2004
This album is known as being the first Van Halen album to feature Sammy Hagar, who replaced former lead vocalist David Lee Roth.
The trend continues on 5150 to an even greater extent, and again Eddie proves some of his synth riffs are just as memorable as his guitar riffs.
On 5150, the band tries to add something new to their sound, but in the process they sound a little less like the Van Halen we all know and love.

Van Halen : 5150 - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
5150 (named after Eddie's home studio) became a number one blockbuster record with a sold-out tour to boot.
Technically a near-perfect collection of pop-minded rock anthems, 5150 still divides Van Halen fans to this day.
Roth-era loyalists may balk at the album's contrived sleekness, but the overwhelming quality and consistency of its material is still undeniable.

One of my favorites on 5150, this song has soaring vocals and a kind of hopeful-yet-sad-yet-looking-up thing going for it--whatever that means.
The trademark vocal harmonies are present (as they are throughout the album) and they add a sense of wonder and beauty to this tune.

 CD review: "5150"
The first album by the new lineup, "5150" (the police code for a lunatic needing to be picked up), shows some rough edges where the band and new singer have yet to mesh styles.
For the most part, the album cranks with the energy and rhythm that made the L.A. band the immensely popular rockers they are.
On the album "1984," Eddie proved he was the new standard by which rock guitarists are to be measured, and he strengthens that argument on "5150."

Hagar's monologues, although at times long-winded, are generally interesting, especially his speech about living in the moment in the middle of "Panama." The instrumentals are more hit-or-miss.
