Merapi remained at Alert Level 2 (on a scale of 1-4).
Merapi, one of Indonesia's most active volcanoes, lies in one of the world's most densely populated areas and dominates the landscape immediately N of the major city of Yogyakarta.
The steep-sided modern Merapi edifice, its upper part unvegetated due to frequent eruptive activity, was constructed to the SW of an arcuate scarp cutting the eroded older Batulawang volcano.

New observations will be made very soon that should improve the prediction, hopefully moving the path south.
March 31, Merapi: The star is SAO 211476, spectral type G5, an event not predicted by E. Goffin or in the IOTA data of Dec. 2002 used for IOTA local circumstance predictions.
April 3, Flora: A relatively bright close double star is occulted by the large asteroid (8) Flora.

Note: The duration given in the line below is the interval during which the occultation shadow sweeps across the Earth - please see the minute markers on the map to determine the approximate time for your location.
On 2005 Oct 13 UT, the 151 km diameter asteroid (536) Merapi will occult a 11.9 mag star in the constellation Auriga for observers along a path across the eastern part of Western Australia.
In the case of an occultation, the combined light of the asteroid and the star will drop by 2.2 mag to 13.9 mag (the magnitude of the asteroid) for at most 18.9 seconds.
